Welcome to Mayfield

Welcome to Mayfield School’s website! Here on our website, you will get a glimpse into the exceptional programming offered at Mayfield School. School is a place where we learn, work and play together every day and our goal is for every student to feel happy and safe while learning at Mayfield. We have a committed and caring staff, a stimulating learning environment and a welcoming family atmosphere.  Mayfield is a place where everyone belongs!

The elementary program for kindergarten to grade six students promotes literacy, numeracy and well-being in our classrooms. We work together with students to build confidence using creativity and problem solving in all subject areas. All students are unique in their learning style and our teachers deliver instruction in interesting and inviting ways to engage students. We enjoy and celebrate students’ individuality and create dynamic learning experiences that nurture student success. We believe that reading and writing are an important part of learning and promote a culture of literacy with all students, including students who just need that extra bit of attention who are both developing their literacy skills as well as those who have these skills mastered.

The Interactions program at Mayfield School is also a Division Site for students with autism in grades 1-6. The Interactions program supports students in improving communication, social interaction and behaviour while developing academic skills in a small class size. The extensive use of visuals to support communication as well as opportunities in spaces throughout the school promote growth and relationships with students and staff.

Our Pre-Kindergarten program builds children's strengths and skills in a playful, language-rich environment. The program is for children with severe needs who are between the ages of 2 years 8 months and 4 years 8 months old by September 1 of the year they are attending. This half-day program offers ongoing access to specialized support at school (e.g., speech and language pathology, occupational and physical therapy), classrooms that offer appropriate skills and strategies that support each child’s learning and growth, and a strong partnership between family and school.

Mayfield School is a dynamic and exciting place to be! We look forward to learning with you and your child.

Principal's Message

I believe that students learn through ownership of their learning through targeted provocations that challenge students’ wonder and understandings of their world. I believe that each student has the opportunity to thrive and demonstrate personal excellence. I am delighted to be the principal in the dynamic learning environment at Mayfield. Teachers create environments that engage students’ curiosity, challenge their thinking to consider complex perspectives, and empower students to take responsibility for their learning.

I believe that each one of us - staff, parent, and student - all impact student success. With teamwork toward student achievement, I believe we create a learning space for students that promotes wonderment, curiosity, and a desire for life-long learning.

Learning Together,

Auriana Burns
