Our Virtual Open House will occur on:
6:00 pm - Whole School
Q: When is the first day of school?
A: At Mayfield, our first day of classes is Sept 2, 2021; however, with staggered entry, your child will attend either the 2nd or the 3rd that week. More information will be mailed to you late August.
Q: What time do classes start?
A: Supervision starts at 8:20 am and the first bell rings at 8:30 am. Classes are from 8:30am -11:25pm.
Q: How does drop-off and pick-up work?
A: Students are encouraged to be on time and should be dropped off at their assigned door between 8:20 am and 8:30 am where a supervisor or their teacher will meet them. The door is locked at 8:30 am and if they are late they need to come to the front door of the school. At the end of the day, the students are picked up at their assigned door. They stay with their teacher until an identified adult arrives.
Q: Snacks and Lunches...what do I send?
A: All students need a healthy snack that they can manipulate/open on their own and do not require heating up.
Q: Can I volunteer?
A: Perhaps. Our division has not cleared outside parents/guardians in the classroom yet. More information may come in the fall. Talk with your teacher at that time about how you can support the class.
Q: Can I stay the first day?
A: We encourage independence. Say a quick goodbye and enjoy some free time. Ask your child to tell you about their day afterward.
Q: Can my child get busing?
A: Bus service is not available to Mayfield School as our attendance area is not outside of the walk zone. Families who are outside our attendance area will need to provide transportation.
Q: What can I do to get my child ready for Kindergarten?
A: There are lots of ways to support readiness. Here are a few:
- Sit and read with them - ask questions about what you read together. Find objects on the page.
- Practice colours and letter recognition
- Have them use pencils and operate scissors
- Practice independent dressing/shoes/zippers
- Regular sleep routines - prepare routines 1-2 weeks before school starts
- Limit screen time (TV/Video games)
- Bathroom independence
Q: How many kids are in the class?
A: Our average class size is around 15- 18 students.Q: What supplies will I need?
A: There will be a supply list posted on our website in late May.
Indoor shoes, backpack, lunch kit, plastic water bottle and a few items such as glue sticks, pencils, etc.
Q: How do I register?
A: All registrations are completed online and you can fill out the registration form here.
Q: What if I am outside the attendance area, will I get in?
A: Mayfield school has to accommodate resident students who live in the attendance area first. Check if you are in Mayfield's attendance area by entering your address here.
Those resident students outside the attendance area may get in depending on how many register from inside the attendance area. There is a division process for access for students outside the attendance area. See here for more information.
You can only register at one school. All our registrations are linked electronically throughout the city.
It is not a first come first served registration process. All those that register before 4:00pm on April 15 are considered. The class is capped at 25 students.
All families who do not obtain a spot at Mayfield will be contacted by April 22, 2021.
Q: Who can I contact if I have questions?
A: Contact the office at 780-489-5100
